[Norsk versjon] [Home|DSE] NOVA has an ongoing project for the development of a "next generation telescope" (NGT) at the observatory. NGT has here been defined to be a large telescope (about 1 meter in diameter) of high-tech design. Both the observatory building and the telescope will be automatic, i.e. they may be controlled remotely or may be run without human intervention in robotic mode. The robotic mode will be made available to Internet users. A user may send his observational order in a specific format to an observatory front-end computer. The computer compiles all the requests into an observational programme for each night. The Study group for NGT is developing technology for the NGT and is currently testing it on the Phoenix telescope. This prototyping also means that the Phoenix telescope will be converted into a robotic telescope. In fact, it will be available on the Internet years before the NGT is completed. The first test interface is available here.
