Vega is divided into two rooms, the observation room and a side
room. The observation room has a roll-off roof which is parked on a
ramp beside the building under observations. The telescopes reside in
this room.
Along the walls, there are three instrumental cages, one
for each telescope. The cages contains eyepieces, photographic
equipment, etc.
The heated side room is equipped with a writing board with a computer,
a table and a sofa. The computer is used for observation scheduling,
performing observations and observational logging. Among its programs
are sky maps, telescope pointing, CCD control, image processing and
the NOVA observation log.
The three telescopes are:
- Celestron 14. A Schmidt
Cassegrain telescope with a diameter of 35 cm (14") and focal length of 390
cm (f/11). It is motorized on both axis and equipped with a dual-axis
drive corrector and a 8 x 50 finder scope.
- Meade 2120. A Schmidt
Cassegrain telescope with a diameter of 25 cm (10") and focal length of 160
cm (f/6.3). It is also motorized on both axis and equipped with a
dual-axis drive corrector and a 8 x 50 finder scope. In addition, it
has a Schmidt Cassegrain guide scope of diameter 10 cm and focal
length 100 cm (f/10).
- Celestron 8/Schmidt Camera 5.5.
A Schmidt Cassegrain telescope with a diameter of 20 cm (8") and focal
length of 200 cm (f/10). It is also motorized on both axis and
equipped with a dual-axis drive corrector and a 8 x 50 finder
scope. The Schmidt Camera rides piggy back on the Celestron 8. It has
a diameter of almost 14 cm and a focal length of 23 cm
(f/1.65). Single frames of 135 mm film is placed in a magnetic film
holder within the camera.
Among the additional equipment, there are:
- A ST-4 SBIG autoguider/CCD camera. It can be used for very accurate
guiding on all three telescopes. When used as a camera, it is
controlled from the side room. The size of the CCD chip is 192 x 165
pixels with 8 bits pixels
- A 0.63X telecompressor
- Various off-axis guiders and illuminated reticle eyepieces
- Teleextender for eyepiece projection
- Various eyepieces
